Since our foundation we have been based in Zofingen, a small town in the canton of Aargau.

Even monks and Romans appreciated the central location of Zofingen, which is now the headquarters of the prestigious Swiss companies.

The small town was founded in 1201 by the Count of Frohburg. It was probably not widely inhabited until the New Stone Age, however. Over the centuries, Zofingen, once occupied by the Romans and surrounded by town walls, developed from a monk settlement to a modern, picturesque town. Trade and industry flourished thanks to its central location on an important trade route.

During the industrial revolution, the town in the Aargau canton became the home of the renowned, successful company:

1833

Ringier was founded by Johann Rudolf Ringier with the establishment of a book printing business in Zofingen. These days Ringier is the largest Swiss media company and publisher of numerous newspapers and periodicals in various languages. Based in Zurich since 1978, the company employs thousands of people.

1873

Siegfried was founded in Zofingen by the pharmacist, Samuel Benoni Siegfried, as a pharmacy supplier. Today Siegfried Holding AG is a successful life science enterprise with the two divisions, Siegfried Actives and Siegfried Generics.

1946

Müller Martini was founded in Zofingen by Hans Müller with the manufacture of book binding machines under the name Grapha Maschinenfabrik. This was joined by Martini in 1969, a company founded by Friedrich von Martini in 1850, which had made a name for itself with the manufacture of precision rifles, Martini cars, folding and stitching machines, book binding and perfect binding machines. Today Müller Martini AG employs several thousand people across the whole world and produces a large variety of web offset presses, book binding machines, saddle stitching and delivery systems.
