High Savings Potential of High Efficiency Pumps in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Production

Interview published on energynet.de on 22 October 2012

By Andreas Kühl (German only)

How significant is the energy consumption of your products for customers?

Nowadays, industry is increasingly facing the challenge of improving sustainability and energy efficiency as electricity prices rise and CO2 emissions trading increases. Pumps are considered to play a key role in this context since two thirds of the energy used in industry is consumed by motor systems. As pumping systems account for around one quarter of this consumption, they offer tremendous potential to save energy and costs. CP already realised this back in 1999, acted accordingly and has consequently gained a pioneering role in energy saving pumping systems. Our customers benefit from a comprehensive range of bespoke solutions that reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions over time.

Where are your products used and what applications offer the most potential for savings?

Our premium quality centrifugal pumps are used in the basic chemical (organic and inorganic), fine chemical (pharmaceutical, agrochemical and speciality chemical), biotechnology, food and paper industries in more than 40 countries.
According to the latest report published by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy in July 2012, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are the largest energy consumers in the manufacturing sector. The use of high efficiency pumps in these industries’ production processes holds enormous potential for savings.
